Rhino SDP enables operators to address the four “must do” service layer expedients:

  • Provide classic telecom services – at a dramatically lower price-point
  • Develop, deliver and refine new Telco2.0 services – much more quickly, to enable fast iteration and refinement and to do so at a much lower price-point
  • To provide easy-to-use web service exposures of network capabilities – to enable value-add content services by the operator and third parties, and to ease the integration of operator systems
  • To free the operator to charge for their servicesunconstrained by their existing networks and charging systems

OpenCloud Rhino Telecom Application Server is used by leading SDP vendors and telecom operators to provide the real-time, highly available, high performance execution environment for telecommunication services. Rhino TAS delivers classic "carrier-grade" characteristics whilst utilising the price/performance benefits provided by commodity off-the-shelf hardware and software. A Rhino-based SDP provides flexibility and ease of service innovation for data, voice and messaging services delivered over IP and SS7-based networks.

Rhino SDP allows operators to leverage their network assets and service enablers by providing web services exposures of their capabilities. This allows service and content partners as well as the operator’s own IT systems to make use of network capabilities, such as messaging and payments, for example.

In addition, Rhino SDP provides the following benefits:

  • Open Standards-based systems with support for vendor-specific telecoms protocols to eliminate proprietary legacy lock-in
  • A thriving independent telecom service developer community that fosters innovation and delivers competitive pricing and supply of services
  • An open Service Creation Environment (SCE). Rhino Visual Service Architect (VSA) provides a graphical environment for the creation and maintenance of Rhino services. VSA generates truly portable, standard-based code and allows the developer to use native Java when needed and to the extent they wish. Rhino VSA means you can avoid implementing vendor-specific "next generation legacy systems".
  • Service agility ― services can be created, trialled, adapted and launched in very short timescales and at a dramatically lower price-point. Using Rhino and Rhino VSA enables telecom operators to implement the telecom equivalent of the internet "perpetual beta" services model
  • Carrier-Grade performance at an IT price-point ― harness Moore's law to deliver next generation telecoms services at an IT price-point.

Rhino TAS provides HTTP and SOA interfaces and is readily integrated with the other main IT subsystems of an SDP – such as Content Delivery and Device Management systems – by web services. This may be done directly or using an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). This is illustrated below.
