Hunting Group

Description

Distributes phone calls from a single telephone number to a group of several phone lines, using an algorithm to select which line will receive the call.

Facilitates the following types of hunting:

  • multiline — lets several telephone lines act as a single group, so if a line is busy, forwards to the next available (a slightly more complex form of callback than call forwarding); only if no lines in the group are open does the calling party get a busy signal
  • linear (also called "serial" hunting) — always delivers calls are to the lowest-numbered available line (as with busy/no-answer call forwarding), tries the first line first, and if busy, tries the second, then third, and so on
  • circular — distributes calls "round-robin"; first to the first line, then the next call to the second, then third, and so on... and upon reaching the end of the hunt group, starts over at the first line; only skips a line if still busy on a previous call
  • most idle — reaches hunting group members sequentially, calling the next available line if the line called is busy; only if no lines in the group are open does the calling party get a busy signal.
